School of Woodcarving (legally School of Wood Carving, Inc.) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving the art of traditional woodcarving and advancing woodcarving education as a charitable public benefit. Through schoolofwoodcarving.com, we bring professional-quality instruction to any learner worldwide, free from barriers of cost, geography, or background.

● Our Mission

School of Wood Carving, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) charitable nonprofit dedicated to preserving the art of traditional woodcarving and advancing woodcarving education as a public benefit — providing professional-quality instruction through schoolofwoodcarving.com to any learner worldwide, free from barriers of cost, geography, or background.

We keep a centuries-old craft alive and pass it to the next generation by offering free and low-cost woodcarving lessons online. Course-access fees and donations directly fund our free instruction and craft-preservation work.

A note on who we are: School of Wood Carving, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) public charity (EIN 88-0521972), not a degree-granting school. We offer woodcarving instruction to learners worldwide as a charitable program that preserves a traditional art form.

Who We Are

We are a community of carvers, supporters, and learners working to save a vanishing art. Traditional woodcarving has been handed down by hand, from teacher to student, for generations. As fewer people learn it, the craft is at risk of being lost. Our charitable work makes sure it is not. We share knowledge openly so that anyone, anywhere, can pick up a chisel and carry the tradition forward.

Our Mission in Action

Everything we do serves the public benefit. Our charitable program rests on four simple commitments:

Step-by-step lessons

Clear, guided online lessons that anyone can follow at their own pace.

Full craft instruction

Complete training in traditional techniques, from first cuts to finished work.

A friendly community

A welcoming circle of carvers who encourage and learn from one another.

Low-cost and free access

Free lessons for all, with low-cost options that fund our preservation work.

What We Offer

Our programs and activities are charitable public-benefit work, not commercial offerings:

  • Free and low-cost online lessons. Professional-quality woodcarving instruction that learners can access from anywhere in the world.
  • Hands-on guidance. Online and, where possible, in-person instruction for every skill level, from complete beginners to advanced carvers.
  • Craft-preservation efforts. Recording, teaching, and sharing traditional techniques so this heritage art is not lost.

Anyone can take part. We serve learners worldwide, with no barriers of cost, geography, or background. The public benefit is simple: a traditional art is preserved, and the skill to practice it is given freely to all who want it.

Our Founder's Story

School of Woodcarving was founded by Alexander Grabovetskiy, a master woodcarver who took his first lessons from his grandfather at age six. That early gift, one generation teaching the next, shaped his life and his purpose. Decades later, he carries the same craft and the same care forward, this time to learners everywhere. His goal is to make sure the art that was given to him is never lost, and that no one is turned away for lack of money or distance.

Support Our Work

Your gift keeps traditional woodcarving alive and our lessons free. Donations and course-access fees directly fund free instruction and craft-preservation work for learners worldwide.

A gift through the Donate button above is a pure donation — you receive no goods or services in return — so it may be tax-deductible in full to the extent allowed by law. This is separate from a membership: members receive access to online members-only resources in return, so a membership is treated as a quid-pro-quo contribution and only the amount above the value of those benefits may be deductible (see your receipt for our good-faith estimate).
