______
This is possibly one of the trickiest questions.
What are the best woodcarving tools to get?
No matter if you're starting wood carving or have done it before, good tools are necessary! Do not waste money on inexpensive carving tools. There are many tools available. Don't get them only because they're affordable. Carving is meant to be relaxing and shouldn't be difficult. Use good tools to start wood carving.

Your tools are yours since you bought them. But don't be afraid of them or handle them badly. They will last longer if you look after them, so here's some advice on how to do that:
– If you're a beginner who has never tried carving before, the first step is to learn everything you can about your hand tools and how they work before using them! If something feels off, watch the woodcarving video lessons at my school of wood carving on tools and sharpening over and over until you get it. This is especially important for sharpening your gouges and chip carving knife — you could harm the blade or ruin its edge by using anything other than a proper sharpening stone or machine. I talk about sharpening a lot in my video workshops.
How can you safely use your tools?
– Safety should always be your top priority when using chisels and gouges for wood carving!
Feel unsafe? Wear safety gloves when doing woodworking! Generally, traditional woodcarvers avoid power tools and only use them to get basswood or other carvable wood ready. Woodworkers often consider power tools when thinking of safety. Still, hand tools can be equally hazardous.
I am a professional woodcarver and I know what I am talking about. Just ask me how I know. When you just start a wood carving journey, you don't really think about this, you just grab your chip carving knife and start whittling away. Whittling is just one kind of wood carving; there are several more. High relief carving, low relief carving, carving in the round, etc. If you want to learn wood carving, check my lessons; I teach all types.
How should you store your tools?
Make sure your tools are clean! Rust is a problem for woodcarving tools. To avoid rust, keep them dry. Don't put them in the garage if it's humid where you live. You can also use machine oil to stop rust. Every now and then, wipe your chisels with an oily cloth. Your tools can last a very long time. (Some of mine are 300 years old)

Focus on an easy design first.
Start with an easy task
Pay attention to how the design is shaped
Practice on a piece of scrap wood first
