Whether you are new to wood carving or have been doing it for a while, having good tools is essential! Avoid spending money on cheap carving tools. There are many tools available. Avoid buying them simply because they are affordable. Carving is a relaxing hobby and does not have to be a constant struggle. Start a wood carving journey with good tools.

The tools you have are yours since you purchased them. This doesn't mean you should be scared of them or treat them poorly. They will have a longer life if you maintain them well, so here's some guidance on how to do it:
– If you are new to woodcarving and have never tried it before, the first step is to learn all you can about your hand tools and how they work before using them! If something seems off, watch the woodcarving video lessons at my wood carving school about tools and sharpening over and over until you get it. This is very important for sharpening your gouges and chip carving knife — you could harm the blade or mess up its edge if you use anything other than the right sharpening stone or machine. I discuss this a lot in my video workshops.

Also, apply machine oil to prevent rust. Once in a while, wipe your chisels with an oily rag. Your tools should last for many years. (Some of my tools are 300 years old)
