What tools do I need for woodcarving?
Does not matter if you just start a wood carving journey or carved for a while, good tools are a MUST! Avoid spending money on cheap carving tools. The market has many tools available. Don't buy them just because they are cheap. Carving should be enjoyable and not a struggle. Begin wood carving with good tools.

Your tools are yours since you bought them. But don't be afraid of them or handle them badly. They will last longer if you look after them, so here's some advice on how to do that:
– If you're new and haven't carved before, the first step is to learn everything you can about your hand tools and how they work before using them! If something doesn't seem right, rewatch the woodcarving video lessons at my school of wood carving on tools and sharpening until you understand. This is really important when it comes to sharpening your gouges and chip carving knife — you could damage the blade or ruin its edge with anything other than the proper sharpening stone or machine. I talk a lot about sharpening in my video workshops.
How to use your tools safely?

Feel unsafe? Wear safety gloves when doing woodworking! Traditional woodcarvers rarely use power tools, except to prepare basswood or another carvable wood. Safety for woodworkers typically involves thinking about power tools. Still, hand tools can be equally hazardous.
I am an expert woodcarver, and I speak from experience. Inquire how I know. When you first start wood carving, you don't think about it; you simply take your knife and carve. Storing your tools properly
Make sure your tools are clean! Rust is a problem for woodcarving tools. To avoid rust, keep them dry. Don't put them in the garage if it's humid where you live. You can also use machine oil to stop rust. Every now and then, wipe your chisels with an oily cloth. Your tools can last a very long time. (Some of mine are 300 years old)
