This may be one of the most complex questions.
What are the best woodcarving tools to get?
Whether you're new to wood carving or experienced, good tools are needed! Don't spend your money on low-quality tools. There are a lot of tools available in the market. Avoid buying them simply because they are affordable. Wood carving can be relaxing and shouldn't be tough. Kick off your wood carving with quality tools.

You own your tools—they belong to you because you bought them. However, you shouldn't fear or misuse them. They will serve you longer if you look after them, so here are some tips on how to do that:
– If you're a beginner who has never tried carving before, the first step is to learn everything you can about your hand tools and how they work before using them! If something feels off, watch the woodcarving video lessons at my school of wood carving on tools and sharpening over and over until you get it. This is especially important for sharpening your gouges and chip carving knife — you could harm the blade or ruin its edge by using anything other than a proper sharpening stone or machine. I talk about sharpening a lot in my video workshops.
What is the safe way to use your tools?
– Always remember safety when using wood carving tools like chisels and gouges!
Feel unsafe? Wear safety gloves when doing woodworking! Traditional Woodcarvers usually do not use power tools, only to prepare basswood or another type of carvable lumber before carving. When considering safety, woodworkers usually think of power tools first. But hand tools could be as dangerous as power tools.
I am a trained woodcarver, and I have the knowledge. You can ask me how I know. When you first start wood carving, you don't think about it; you simply take your knife and carve. Whittling is just one kind of wood carving; there are several more. High relief, low relief, round carving, etc. If you wish to be a carver, look at my lessons; I teach every type of carving.
How to store your tools?
Keep your tools clean! Woodcarving tools might get rusty. To stop rust, keep them in a dry spot. Do not store them in the garage if it's humid where you live. Also, you can use machine oil to prevent rust. Sometimes wipe your chisels with an oily rag. Your tools should last a lifetime. (Some of mine are 300 years old)

Start with a basic design.
Kick off with something simple
Pay attention to how the design is shaped
Do a test on a scrap wood piece first
Use a pattern to guide you
