Which tools should I get for woodcarving?
It doesn't matter if you are just beginning wood carving or have been at it for some time, quality tools are crucial! Save your money from being wasted on cheap tools. There are many tools available. Do not buy them just because they look affordable. Wood carving is a relaxing hobby and shouldn't be hard. Use good tools to start wood carving.

The tools you have are yours since you purchased them. This doesn't mean you should be scared of them or treat them poorly. They will have a longer life if you maintain them well, so here's some guidance on how to do it:
– If you're just starting out and have never carved before, the first thing you should do is learn as much as possible about your hand tools and how they work before using them! If something seems wrong, watch the woodcarving video lessons at my school of wood carving on tools and sharpening repeatedly until you understand. This is crucial for sharpening your gouges and chip carving knife — you could hurt the blade or mess up its edge by using anything other than a proper sharpening stone or machine. What is the safe way to use your tools?

When you feel unsafe, make sure to wear safety gloves when handling woodworking tools! Traditional woodcarvers typically avoid power tools; they only use them to get basswood or other carvable wood ready. Safety for woodworkers typically involves thinking about power tools. But hand tools could be as dangerous as power tools.

How to store your tools?
Make sure your tools are clean! Rust is a problem for woodcarving tools. To avoid rust, keep them dry. Don't put them in the garage if it's humid where you live. You can also use machine oil to stop rust. Every now and then, wipe your chisels with an oily cloth. Your tools can last a very long time. (Some of mine are 300 years old)
