What are the best woodcarving tools to get?
It doesn't matter if you are just beginning wood carving or have been at it for some time, quality tools are crucial! Please do not waste your money on cheap carving tools. There are many tools available. Do not buy them just because they look affordable. Carving is a relaxing hobby and does not have to be a constant struggle. Start a wood carving journey with good tools.

These tools are yours because you bought them. But don't be scared of them or use them wrongly. They will last longer if you care for them properly, so here is some advice on how to do it:
– If you're new and haven't carved before, the first step is to learn everything you can about your hand tools and how they work before using them! If something doesn't seem right, rewatch the woodcarving video lessons at my school of wood carving on tools and sharpening until you understand. This is really important when it comes to sharpening your gouges and chip carving knife — you could damage the blade or ruin its edge with anything other than the proper sharpening stone or machine. I talk a lot about sharpening in my video workshops.
How should you use your tools safely?

If you don't feel safe, put on safety gloves when using woodworking tools! Traditional woodcarvers rarely use power tools, except to prepare basswood or another carvable wood. When considering safety, woodworkers usually think of power tools first. Yet, hand tools are also risky.
I am a professional woodcarver and I know what I am talking about. Just ask me how I know. When you first start wood carving, you don't think about it; you simply take your knife and carve. Storing your tools properly
Keep your tools clean! Rust can be an issue with woodcarving tools. To prevent it, keep your tools dry. Avoid storing them in the garage if it's humid where you live. You can also use machine oil to ward off rust. Occasionally wipe your chisels with an oily rag. Your tools should last many years. (Some of my tools are 300 years old)
