Which tools should I get for woodcarving?
Regardless of whether you are starting your wood carving journey or have been carving for years, having the right tools is important! Do not waste money on inexpensive carving tools. You will find many tools out there. Refrain from buying them just because they seem cheap. Carving is supposed to be relaxing and not hard work. Start a wood carving journey with good tools.

These tools are yours because you bought them. But don't be scared of them or use them wrongly. They will last longer if you care for them properly, so here is some advice on how to do it:
– If You are a beginner and never carved before, step number one would be: Learn as much as possible about your hand tools and how they work before using them! If there's something that doesn't seem right, watch woodcarving video lessons at my school of wood carving about tools and sharpening again and again until you understand what's going on. This is especially important when it comes to sharpening your gouges and chip carving knife — you could damage the blade or ruin its edge by using anything other than a proper sharpening stone or sharpening machine. I am talking a lot in my video workshops about sharpening.

Feel unsafe? Wear safety gloves when doing woodworking! Traditional woodcarvers typically avoid power tools; they only use them to get basswood or other carvable wood ready. For woodworkers, safety is usually linked with power tools. But hand tools could be as dangerous as power tools.

How to store your tools?
Keep your tools clean! One problem with woodcarving tools is rust. To prevent rust, keep your tools in a dry place. You should NOT keep your tools in the garage if you live in a humid climate. Second, You can use machine oil to prevent rust. Just once in a while wipe your chisels with an oily rag. Your tools should last a lifetime. (Some of my tools are 300 years old)
