What woodcarving tools should I buy?
Whether you are new to wood carving or have been doing it for a while, having good tools is essential! Save your money from being wasted on cheap tools. There are a lot of tools available in the market. Don't buy them just because they are cheap. Carving is a relaxing hobby and does not have to be a constant struggle. Use good tools to start wood carving.

You own your tools—they belong to you because you bought them. However, you shouldn't fear or misuse them. They will serve you longer if you look after them, so here are some tips on how to do that:
– If you're a beginner who has never tried carving before, the first step is to learn everything you can about your hand tools and how they work before using them! If something feels off, watch the woodcarving video lessons at my school of wood carving on tools and sharpening over and over until you get it. This is especially important for sharpening your gouges and chip carving knife — you could harm the blade or ruin its edge by using anything other than a proper sharpening stone or machine. I talk about sharpening a lot in my video workshops.

When you feel unsafe, make sure to wear safety gloves when handling woodworking tools! Usually, traditional woodcarvers don't rely on power tools, except for getting basswood or another type of carvable wood ready. Woodworkers often consider power tools when thinking of safety. Hand tools might be just as unsafe as power tools.

Keep your tools clean! Rust can be an issue with woodcarving tools. To prevent it, keep your tools dry. Avoid storing them in the garage if it's humid where you live. You can also use machine oil to ward off rust. Occasionally wipe your chisels with an oily rag. Your tools should last many years. (Some of my tools are 300 years old)
