______
This may be one of the most complex questions.
What woodcarving tools should I buy?
Whether you are new to wood carving or have been doing it for a while, having good tools is essential! Don't waste your money on cheap tools. Many tools can be found in stores. Avoid buying them simply because they are affordable. Carving should be enjoyable and not a struggle. Kick off your wood carving with quality tools.

These tools are yours because you bought them. But don't be scared of them or use them wrongly. They will last longer if you care for them properly, so here is some advice on how to do it:
– If You are a beginner and never carved before, step number one would be: Learn as much as possible about your hand tools and how they work before using them! If there's something that doesn't seem right, watch woodcarving video lessons at my school of wood carving about tools and sharpening again and again until you understand what's going on. This is especially important when it comes to sharpening your gouges and chip carving knife — you could damage the blade or ruin its edge by using anything other than a proper sharpening stone or sharpening machine. I am talking a lot in my video workshops about sharpening.
What are the steps to use your tools safely?
– Safety should always be your top priority when using chisels and gouges for wood carving!
Feel unsafe? Wear safety gloves when doing woodworking! Traditional woodcarvers typically avoid power tools; they only use them to get basswood or other carvable wood ready. Safety for woodworkers typically involves thinking about power tools. Yet, hand tools are also risky.
I am a skilled woodcarver, and I understand this well. Inquire how I know. When you first start wood carving, you don't think about it; you simply take your knife and carve. Whittling is just one kind of wood carving; there are several more. High relief carving, low relief carving, carving in the round, etc. If you want to learn wood carving, check my lessons; I teach all types.
How to store your tools?
Keep your tools clean! Woodcarving tools can rust. To stop rust, keep your tools dry. Don't store them in the garage if it's humid where you live. Also, use machine oil to stop rust. Occasionally wipe your chisels with an oily cloth. Your tools can last forever. (Some of mine are 300 years old)

Start with something simple.
Start with an easy task
Observe the shape of the design carefully
Practice on a piece of scrap wood first
Stick to a Woodcarving pattern to direct you
