This could be one of the most challenging questions.
Which tools should I get for woodcarving?
It doesn't matter if you are just beginning wood carving or have been at it for some time, quality tools are crucial! Please do not waste your money on cheap carving tools. You will find many tools out there. Don't buy them just because they are cheap. Carving is supposed to be relaxing and not hard work. Use good tools to start wood carving.

Your tools are your tools—you bought them and they're yours. But that doesn't mean you should be afraid of them or abuse them. They will last longer if you take care of them, so here's some advice on how to do just that:
– If You are a beginner and never carved before, step number one would be: Learn as much as possible about your hand tools and how they work before using them! If there's something that doesn't seem right, watch woodcarving video lessons at my school of wood carving about tools and sharpening again and again until you understand what's going on. This is especially important when it comes to sharpening your gouges and chip carving knife — you could damage the blade or ruin its edge by using anything other than a proper sharpening stone or sharpening machine. I am talking a lot in my video workshops about sharpening.
How to use your tools safely?
– Safety should always be your top priority when using chisels and gouges for wood carving!
If you feel unsafe, wear safety gloves when working with woodworking tools! Most traditional woodcarvers don't use power tools; they just use them to prepare basswood or other carvable wood. When considering safety, woodworkers usually think of power tools first. Hand tools might be just as unsafe as power tools.
I am a seasoned woodcarver and I know my craft. Ask me how I know. When you just start a wood carving journey, you don't really think about this, you just grab your chip carving knife and start whittling away. Whittling is just one kind of wood carving; there are several more. High relief carving, low relief carving, round carving, and so on. If you want to learn carving, view my lessons; I teach the whole range.
Ways to store your tools
Keep your tools clean! Rust can be an issue with woodcarving tools. To prevent it, keep your tools dry. Avoid storing them in the garage if it's humid where you live. You can also use machine oil to ward off rust. Occasionally wipe your chisels with an oily rag. Your tools should last many years. (Some of my tools are 300 years old)

Begin with a simple layout.
Initiate with something easy
Notice the shape that the design has
Try it out on a scrap piece of wood first
Adhere to a Wood Carving Pattern for guidance
